Daniel Walter Griffin Underwood

Daniel Walter Griffin Underwood died unexpectedly at home in Greensboro, North Carolina, on July 6, 2026, at twenty-two years of age.  

Griffin was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, on December 13, 2003, to Walter and Elizabeth Underwood. As deeply committed Christians, his parents raised him to know and follow Jesus, and Griffin was baptized at the Crestwood Campus of Southeast Christian Church in Crestwood, Kentucky, on May 5, 2013.  

Griffin graduated in 2022 from Smith High School in Greensboro and he enjoyed his job at Chick-fil-A immensely.  

He had a special relationship with his younger sister Kate and fiercely protected her as if she was a princess in his own fantastical court. 

Drawn to the creative, Griffin was a voracious reader whose medieval sword collection mirrored the fantasy novels he devoured. He also enjoyed an elaborate network of online gamers that he cared for and who cared for him.  

Griffin’s real passion was helping those who felt marginalized. Though a quiet soul, he was a zealous protector of the downtrodden, and he lived with a deep desire to give voice to those who felt as though they had none.  

Griffin is survived by his parents; his older brother Ethan Underwood and wife Kari; his younger brother Benjamin Underwood, and his sister Katherine, all of Greensboro. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Harry and Katherine Ralston of McDowell, Virginia, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

George Brothers Funeral Service is serving the family. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 18, at 10:00 in the lobby of Mercy Hill Church’s Ridge Campus at 1317 Pleasant Ridge Road in Greensboro. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 officiated by Pastors Neeko Williams and Jonathan Yarboro. 

Griffin enjoyed and excelled during one year at Guilford College. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts be made to the college fund of his brother Benjamin and sister Katherine. Gifts can be made online through this GoFundMe.https://gofund.me/b74d6bfbc
