Dora Lee (Sharpe) Purgason

Mrs. Dora Lee Sharpe Purgason, 91, passed away Saturday evening, January 5, 2019 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday, January 11, 2019 at Community Baptist Church, 1330 Burnetts Chapel Rd., Greensboro, NC 27406, with Pastor JR Gossett officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Purgason was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Neal Purgason, Sr.; her parents, George S. Sharpe, Sr. and Lessie Mae Farrington Sharpe; and brother, George S. Sharpe.

Dora graduated from the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, Winston Salem, NC in 1948 and began her career as a registered nurse at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro, NC.  Her range of experience included many areas of nursing until she retired in 1978.

Dora was an active member of Community Baptist Church and in 2013 she was recognized for 70 years of service as a Sunday School Teacher.  Additional interests during her retirement involved family activities, child care and substitute teaching.  In 1995 she received a BA degree in Christian Counseling from Carolina Christian University.

Mrs. Purgason is survived by her daughter, Patti L. Purgason, of Greensboro and Fayetteville, NC; son, Charles N.  Purgason, Jr., and wife, Sue, of Pittsboro, NC; brother, James David Sharpe, Sr., and wife, Laverne, of Greensboro, NC; sisters, Betty S. McMillan, of Loris, SC; Violet Cain, of Mocksville, NC; and Mildred Isom, of Colfax, NC; sister-in-law, Sara O. Sharpe, of Greensboro, NC; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Mohan N. Harwani, MD, Dr. Ajay Kadakia, MD, Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, 6E progressive Care Unit Nurses, Nurse Techs, the unit staff and the Cone Health Palliative Medicine Team.
