Doris Marie (May) Anderson

Doris Marie May Anderson, 94, of Greensboro, passed away on November 6, 2024.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian.

Doris was born on July 18, 1930, in Red House, Virginia to the late Norman and Elsie May. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herman L. “H.L.” Anderson; daughter, Faye Harris; son, Ronald Anderson; and grandson, Brian Harris.

She was a child of the Great Depression and married a sailor, H.L., when he returned from World War II.  They settled in Charlotte Court House, VA.  She was a former member of Sumner Baptist Church where she was involved with the youth ministry for many years, and currently a member of Northside Baptist Church. Doris was manager of the Family Dollar Store in Liberty.

She is survived by her children, Herman “Andy” Anderson, Jr. (Kathy), Carol Overstreet (Bill), Donald Anderson, Cheryl Anderson, and Michael Anderson (Lori); brother, Linwood May (Kay); daughter-in-law, Susan Anderson; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Doris loved gardening, reading, and bird watching, but above all she loved her family the most.
