It is with great sadness that we announce that Edward “Eddie” Estes, 73, of Greensboro went home to be with his Lord on August 27, 2024. Although we are sad here, Jesus is celebrating Eddie’s coming to his eternal home.
Funeral will be 2:00 PM Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
A native of Guilford County, Eddie was a graduate of Grimsley High School. He retired from Gates Rubber Company and held his North Carolina broker’s license where he worked in real estate with his wife. Eddie loved the Lord and his family and was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He loved all types of music especially gospel music and performed many times at Tabernacle Baptist Church where he was a member. He was also a member of a gospel quartet where they performed at different venues as well as the State Gospel Quartet Convention. Eddie was also a huge fan of Elvis. He enjoyed beach trips, playing golf, motorcycles, and flying where he earned his private pilot’s license. In addition, Eddie loved hockey especially the Carolina Hurricanes and he followed NASCAR. One of his greatest joys was his four-legged furry friends: Hershi, Sox, Elvis, and Priscilla. They loved him and could be found by his side constantly. Eddie never met a stranger, and he will be missed by everyone that knew him.
Eddie is survived by his wife and best friend of forty-one years, Vicki Estes of the home; three children, Lisa Michelle Wormwood and husband, Mark, Stephanie Thornlow, and Amanda Estes; three grandchildren, Zackary Williams, Nickolas Romano, Caden Thornlow; sisters, Jennifer Caskie, Deborah Bowman and her husband Clark, Sonja Boyd, Joann Hollifield and her husband Danny; sister-in-law, Pat Mielke and husband John; a very close friend, Maria Rose; a host of nieces and nephews; and he was known as “Uncle Edge” to his best friend and special angel, Michael Hollifield.
The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 Saturday at the church prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 1201 S. Josephine Boyd Street, Greensboro, NC 27403.
