George Stephen(Steve) Cook died on Monday, October 11, 2021 in Fancy Gap, VA.
Steve was born in Guilford County to Fred and Bessie Cook on March 18, 1950. He was raised on a farm in the Sumner School Community, and attended Wingate College and Appalachian State University.
Steve was an entrepreneur who loved a challenge and had several businesses through the years beginning with an auto parts store (20 years) that he established when he was 21 years old. This was followed by his building several hydroelectric plants across North Carolina (30 years) and then developing and selling mountain tracts in Virginia (20 years).
Steve became a 32nd degree Mason at a young age.
Steve designed and built many homes in the Virginia mountainside he loved as well as the High Rock family lake house and was at his happiest when a crowd was gathered there for enjoying family reunions or a fun day of water sports.
Steve was predeceased by his parents Fred and Bessie Cook, his sister Shirley Gilbert Farr, his brother Allan Cook and his nephew Allan Cook, Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Brenda Smith Cook, his sons Charles Cook (Jenny), and Andrew Cook, PA-C (Tina), his three grandchildren Savannah, Bryce and Jesse Cook and his siblings Lois Cook Steele (Don) and David Cook (Joyce). He also left adoring nieces Donna Steele Pinckney and Melanie Gilbert Farr and nephews Col. Darrell Steele (ret.) and Dr. Shawn Gilbert.
A remembrance service will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, October 17, at Concord Friends Meeting at 5500 Old Randleman Rd., with the Rev. Greg Creed officiating followed by a time of visitation. Burial will follow 11:00 am Monday, October 18, at Guilford Memorial Park on Gate City Blvd.
