Harland Elmore Hedrick, Jr.

Harland Elmore Hedrick, Jr. (“Lightning”) of Greensboro, passed away on Sunday April 19, 2026 at Moses Cone Hospital.

Funeral will be held Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 1:00pm at Rock Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00pm at the church prior to the service.

Harland was born in Catawba County, NC to the late Harland Elmore Hedrick, Sr. and Madie Huffman Hedrick. He worked for many years in construction – a job in which he had great talent. He owned and operated Hedrick Construction Company which he founded. He could look at plans one time and successfully complete them without ever needing to see them again, and his work was displayed all over Greensboro. He enjoyed riding around with his family and pointing out the many homes that he had built in the area. He took great pride in his work which will be evident in the homes he built for years to come.  More than his work, he loved caring and providing for his family. He was devoted to being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Lea Hedrick; son Harland M. Hedrick; two brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are his daughters, Clara L. Hall and Danielle L. Gregory; grandchildren Natasha Scott and Lawerence Hall; great-grandchildren Bianca N. Gregory, Valerie F. Gregory, Ayden G. Craft, Knovah Scott, Terrence Scott, Ma’Ki Scott, and Jay Davis; siblings Earl Hedrick of Morganton, NC, Carl (Red) Hedrick of Conover, NC and Margie Sigmon of Conover, NC. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and extended family members whom he loved.
