Harriet "Sue" Pell

Harriet “Sue” Pell, 81, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Wesley Long Hospital.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at George Brothers Funeral Service.  The family will receive friends from 2 until 2:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home, and following the service at her home, 2031 Kivett Drive, Greensboro.

Sue was born November 7, 1944 in Portsmouth Virginia to the late Darrell Blaine Pell and Pauline Ethel Sexton Pell.  She attended UNCG, where she served as the Office Manager for the Spartan Newspaper, all as an adult with four children. Sue later attended North Carolina Central University where she did post graduate work. Sue was a substance abuse counselor with Al-Con Counseling and was one of the first people in Guilford County to flip houses.  She was a long-time friend of Bill W., mentored many and opened her home to those in need, giving them a place to stay until they were back on their feet, and could make twenty dollars last a month.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Libby Miller, Peggy Holt, Darrell Pell, Oscar Hill, and Craig Johnson.

Sue is survived by her children, Susan Renee Jefferson, Joe David Jefferson, Nicolette Martinez Rosenthal, and Nicolas Tolentino Martinez III; spirit children, Wendy and Rhonda; grandchildren, Holly Payne McNally, Thomas Wesley Payne III, and Xander Nicolas Martinez; great-grandchildren, Brooke Peele, Zachary Peele, Domenik McNally and Tessa McNally.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greensboro Urban Ministry, 305 West Gate City Boulevard, Greensboro NC 27406.
