CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF HARRY STALLINGS
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” – II Corinthians 1:3-4
Harry Lee Stallings was born on November 15, 1936, in Duplin County to the late William Henry Stallings and Gertrude Stallings Rose. He was the second oldest of six siblings: William, Vernell, Janice, Yvonne, Robert and Edith.
At an early age, Harry became a dedicated member of Macedonia Holiness Church in Beulaville, NC. He received his formal education at E.E. Smith High School in Kenansville, NC. Throughout his young adult life, he enjoyed activities such as working out, playing pool, and riding motorcycles.
In his early adulthood, Harry moved to Brooklyn, NY. He was truly a hard worker and drove trucks for Pinto Trucking. Harry met the love of his life, Ruth Carson, and in October 1962, they exchanged wedding vows. From this union, they were blessed with four children.
In 1976, Harry relocated his family to Greensboro, NC where they later united with Mount Zion Baptist Church. He was employed by Olympic Products, and after retiring, he pursued a career in real estate with his wife, Ruth. Though a man of few words, Harry was very wise and instilled in his children the value of a dollar. He always pushed them to work hard and save their money.
Though Harry never played sports, he loved watching them on TV. He found relaxation by watching Family Feud and CNN. During his declining health, Harry would quietly join the Chaplain in singing “This Little Light of Mine.” On March 16, 2025, God spoke, and Harry Lee Stallings waved his hands and peacefully transitioned at his home in Greensboro, NC. He and Ruth are now reunited, walking around Heaven together.
Harry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth; two brothers, William David Stallings and Robert Isaiah Stallings; one sister, Edith Mae Best; and a daughter, Yolanda Payton.
He is survived by his children, Beverly Jo Stallings, Sharon Boney Stoudemire, (Eugene) Darryl Stallings (Felicia), Wayne Stallings, Kenneth C. Stallings, Tammie Stallings, Sonja F. Sharpe (Leroy), Rodney Payton; Godson, Dwight Chasten; siblings, Vernell Stallings, Yvonne Baldwin and Lavern Chasten; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Poem
“Our Loving Father”
God took the strength of a mountain & the majesty of a tree.
The warmth of a summer sun, the calm of a quiet sea.
The generous soul of nature & the comforting arm of night.
The wisdom of the ages and the power of the eagle’s flight,
The joy of a morning in spring and the faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity & the depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew his masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it…“DAD”
