Hilda Welch Shelton

Hilda Welch Shelton, beloved mother and grandmother passed away on April 4, 2025 at the age of 99.

Hilda was a good and faithful servant of the Lord who was a part of the Trinity Church family since its founding.  Hilda was a talented cook, gardener and loved to read.  She and her two sisters, the Welch Sisters Trio performed at the Carolina Theatre, on WBIG radio, and later Hilda sang in Trinity church choir.

Hilda married the love of her life James Shelton in 1952 and the two spent 58 wonderful years together and started Henry James Barbeque in Asheboro, NC.

Hilda is survived by her daughter, Melissa Dunn, two grandchildren, Jennifer Dunn (Aaron Brunk) and Benjamin Dunn (Erica).

In addition to her parents, Frank L. and Pearl Welch, she is preceded in death by her husband James   Shelton, sisters Lucille Wrenn and Alice Long, brother Frank Welch and son-in-law Phillip Dunn.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and caregivers at Brookdale Asheboro who helped with Hilda’s care.

A graveside service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Guilford Memorial Park.
