Hunter Allen McDaniel, 28 of Climax, NC went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on December 28th, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma (Cancer).

At the age of 12 Hunter fought his first battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma with great resilience and determination. He had aspired to play professional baseball until this time and then transferred his focus to playing video games on a competitive level by becoming the member of a four person team that traveled across the country and once to Niagara Falls, Canada to participate in tournaments against other teams. Hunter also changed his career focus to helping others by wanting to become a doctor, but quickly changing his choice wanting to be more hands on by being a nurse. After graduating from Southeast Guilford High School, he was accepted into East Carolina University and later into the Nursing program. After graduating, he applied to Brenner Children’s Hospital in hopes of becoming a nurse in the same department where he was once a patient and alongside the doctors who treated him. He was hired and entered the NICU department to begin gaining the experience and knowledge that would one day allow him to transfer into the Hematology/Oncology unit. In the short time he was able to work with the sick babies and their families, he loved the satisfaction of making a difference in their lives. Hunter began his second fight with Ewing’s Sarcoma in 2021 where he waged a very long and courageous battle to find a treatment that would again defeat the mean cruel disease that he had. After numerous treatments and a clinical trial, his body finally gave out. Hunter’s two sidekicks, his dogs Reese Cup and Wrigley (Wrigley Field) kept him entertained at home with love and play time. Hunter was full of life and had the ability to become friends with anyone and formed bonds with some great people from his gaming world and his professional world who loved him as much as his family. Hunter loved traveling to Disney World for vacation with his family. He would travel to New York to visit his gaming best friend Erich Heiseler and his family and to Texas to visit his college best friend Maddie Clark, both who loved Hunter very much. He also loved spending time with all his close friends at the beach or just hanging out when he was well and felt like getting out. Hunter was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan and loved going to their games.
