Mr. James Roger Hayes, Sr., 74, of Greensboro, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2025.
A memorial gathering will be held from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at George Brothers Funeral Service.
James was born in Guilford County on October 22, 1950. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving grandmother who raised him, Grandma Mary Muse Collins and his son, James Roger Hayes, Jr.
He was known as a “jack of all trades” and that was evidenced by his ability to build anything. He owned and operated Hayes Construction and in his younger days operated his own body shop. He loved the outdoors. He loved to camp, hunt, and his favorite outdoor passion was fishing. He also loved watching sports, his favorites being NASCAR and the Carolina Panthers. Even though he was known for being a “slightly hard headed” man and thinking he was “10 feet tall and bulletproof”, he never met a stranger, was very compassionate, and would literally give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it. He loved to cook and grill for his friends and sharing his favorite drink, a good hot cup of coffee. James’ memory will live on forever through his many memories with his family and friends.
James is survived by his daughters, Joyce Hayes Welchel (Jeff) and Katherine Nicole Hayes; his grandchildren, Dalton Gunner Kattner, Kayla Lorraine Kattner and Aidan Chase Willard. He is also survived by his four fur babies, “Toby”, “Jewel”, “Minni” and “Henry”.
