James Alan Scroggs of Elon, NC went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 26, 2024, at Peak Resources Nursing Home in Graham, NC three days after his 96th birthday. He previously resided at the Hamlet in Elon, NC.
Alan was born in Roaring River, North Carolina on December 23, 1928, to Gales and Ethel (Greene) Scroggs. After high school, he attended North Carolina State University and received a degree in Dairy Manufacturing. Following college and 2 years’ service in the U.S. Army, Alan moved to Goldsboro, North Carolina to work at Wayne Dairy. His mother gave him instructions to find a good church and a fine Christian young lady. He fulfilled both assignments and married the love of his life, Peggy West, in April 1955. They were happily married for more than 68 years and had two children. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many.
After God and his family, serving the Lord in the churches that he attended throughout the years was of great importance to him. He served as deacon, trustee, Sunday School teacher, bus captain and choir member. Picking up children to take them to Sunday School was his favorite way to serve the Lord and gave him much joy. After retiring, he loved to take Peggy to spring training in Florida to watch her beloved Atlanta Braves or to Alaska to visit their daughter and son-in-law.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Gales and Ethel Scroggs, his loving wife Peggy, his sisters, Madeline and Rachel, and his brother Gales, Jr.
He is survived by his son Jim Scroggs of Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania and daughter Nancy Wyrick (husband Ernie) of Delta Junction, Alaska, brother-in-law Don Sturkey of Belmont, North Carolina, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A private service will be held at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley, North Carolina on December 31st.
The family would like to thank the staff of Peak Resources for their compassionate care of “Pops” during his final days, the members of McLeansville Baptist Church that visited him during his days at Peak and especially Cindy Truitt, for her visits and milkshakes which he greatly enjoyed the last few days of his life. Daddy will be deeply missed, forever in our hearts and we look forward to seeing him again in Heaven.
