James Albert “Jimmy” Simpson, 80, passed away July 10, 2025, after an illness.
Born on October 22, 1944, in Greensboro, NC, Jimmy was the son of the late Charles and Louise Simpson. He graduated from Grimsley Senior High School. Jimmy served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 to 1969 and completed a tour of duty in Vietnam. Jimmy was employed by Dixie Lock and Key as a locksmith and later became the owner and operator of the business. Jimmy was known for his sense of humor and love of cars, particularly classic Chevrolets.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gail; his daughter Wendy Simpson Raines; son-in-law Johnny Raines; and grandson Landon Raines. He is also survived by his brother Ronnie Simpson (Paulette); and brothers-in-laws Mike and Larry Harding as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Pamela “Suzi” McCann.
Visitation will be held on July 19, 2025, at 12:30 pm at Southside Baptist Church, 1001 Greenhaven Drive, Greensboro, North Carolina. A memorial service will follow at 2 pm with burial after at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 W. Gate City Boulevard, Greensboro, North Carolina. The family requests donations be made to Southside Baptist Church, AuthoraCare Collective, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
