James Stump Obituary

Mr. James Ronald Stump, 81, of Julian, NC went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 6th, 2025 at Monnett Road Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Vance and Rev. Ron Kimble officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm prior to the service at the church.

James was born June 9th, 1944 in Rockingham County, NC to the late Charles Robert and Nora Lou Ballard Stump. Mr. Stump worked for over 50 years in heating and air and retired from Berico Fuels with 42 years of service. He was a faithful member of Monnett Road Baptist and served in numerous capacities including Sunday School teacher, choir member, usher, and deacon. If it was asked of him, James said yes to serve his Lord and his Church. He previously attended Jones Memorial Baptist Church and Lynwood Lakes Baptist Church. In his spare time, James enjoyed spending time outdoors, assembling puzzles, and playing softball. He was a rescue SCUBA diver with Piedmont Rescue, powerlifter, and coached weightlifters.

James had an unmatched sense of humor, you could count on him to crack a one-liner and instantly bring smiles to the crowd. His wittiness and clever humor never faded – even as he endured declining health. He was adored by his many friends whom he affectionately called his “Buddies.” His quick-whit, joyful spirit, and bright smile will be dearly missed by so many.

In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his siblings Edith Brandon, Dot Purnell, Walter Stump (Lois, surviving), Roy Stump, Charles Stump and Marion Vail; grandchildren Jordan and Scarlett; great-grandchild Tyler; special brother-in-law Roy Sizemore and special great-niece Ella.

Surviving are his devoted wife of 63 years, Judy Cable Stump; daughters Pam Zimmer (Tom) and Kim Stout (Travis); grandchildren Megan Fodrie (John), Amanda Walton (Brandon), and Logan Stout (Sarah); great-grandchildren CJ, Johnathan, Andrew, Ethan, and Morgan; sisters Alice Barker and Barbara Gooch; special sister-in-law Wanda Sizemore. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and his Monnett Road Baptist Church family who will miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Monnett Road Baptist Church or to Authoracare Collective.
