It is with great sorrow that we announce James Austin Whiticar, 52, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
James was born May 4, 1970, at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, England to Leo Allan Whiticar and Jennifer Ann Haynes Whiticar. James proudly graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in both Chemistry and Environmental Science, and went on to complete his master’s degree in Environmental Science. He was a devoted Hokies fan and enjoyed watching and supporting his team. In addition, he was passionate about playing soccer and basketball, as a shared interest with his son and how he met his wife of 20 years. Given his birthday, it was fitting that James was a huge Star Wars fan, even naming his goldendoodle “Princess Leia.” He was also a Marvel enthusiast, an interest he shared with his daughter, and enjoyed watching movies, including Guardians of the Galaxy for whom their cavapoo is named. James was known for his generous spirit and went out of his way to help others. His greatest joy was his family and he loved watching his children in all their activities, including sports, arts, and academics. He was always their number one fan. He was previously employed with Siemens Energy, and most recently with TC Trans Continental as Corporate Regional Environmental and Sustainability Manager.
James was preceded in death by his father, Leo Allan Whiticar; grandfather, Leo Wilcy Whiticar; and father-in-law, William Herbert Ashley.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Andrea Ashley Whiticar; son, Connor James Whiticar; daughter, Morgan Ashley Whiticar; mother, Jennifer “Jenny” Haynes Whiticar and Jenny’s special friend, Jerry Franklin Musser; brother, Neil Andrew Whiticar and wife, Sarah Elizabeth Rhodes Whiticar; grandmother, Doris Huff Whiticar; sister-in-law, Allison Ashley Koch and husband, Patrick Koch; mother-in-law, Gloria Elizabeth Ashley; niece, Allana Belle Whiticar; and nephews, Nathan and Justin Koch.
