Jean Carol Touchstone Evans (89) passed into the joyful arms of her loved ones and ancestors who have gone before her, receiving her homecoming from this Earth on 11 April, 2021. Jean passed away following a 4-month illness from complications of SARS Covid-19.
Born 11 May 1931 in Greensboro, NC to Henry Edward Touchstone and Mary Frances Clark Touchstone, Jean grew up in Greensboro and graduated from Greensboro High School in 1950. She began working for Jefferson Life Insurance Company, and married Victor Kinney Evans, her high school sweetheart on 25 November 1951. Together they raised two daughters, Cynthia and Vicki, and one son Charles. Jean lived a remarkable life, enjoying all that life offered from many journeys with her husband’s Department of Defense career. Jean was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star alongside her husband Vic Evans, a Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner. She loved travel, birding and gardening, music and dance. Her skills as a seamstress and with needlecraft brought her great joy and showcased her impeccable talent. Gregarious and friendly with all, Jean created her own career as an executive assistant with the Department of Defense, Department of Transportation and Taiwan Defense Command. In 1989 she was awarded Democratic Woman of the Year in Randolph County NC.
Jean was preceded in death by her father Edward Touchstone (Greensboro/Augusta GA), mother Mary Frances Clark, (Elliott/Hatcher family of VA/NC and Society of Friends members), two brothers Henry and Francis, and sister Jackie. Tragically her son Charles William, and her husband Victor preceded her passing. Surviving are her two daughters Cynthia Evans Hughes (Cary, NC) and Vicki Carol Evans (Tampa, FL), nephew James “Jamie” Stanley (Greensboro, NC), son-in-law Gerald Berben (Cary, NC), grandsons Ethan Hughes (Boise, ID), Gates Magwire (Tampa, FL) and granddaughter Kaileigh Magwire (Dallas, TX).
A celebration of her life will be decided at a later date. Not a dictation but a love gift written and thereafter spoken from the heart, in lieu of flowers and with immense gratitude for the compassion and care given by those who helped her to have a peaceful death, the family requests love gifts be given in her honor to Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh NC. https://transitionslifecare.org/donate/
