Jerry Robinson Obituary

Mr. Jerry Lee Robinson, 97, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, born on January 1st 1929 in Tarboro, North Carolina. Jerry dedicated his life to service, both in the military and in his community.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, enlisted in 1951 and served until 1955, attaining the rank of Airman First Class. Honorably serving in the Korean war, he was awarded the Korean Service,  National Defense, Good Conduct, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Service medals. In 2025 Jerry was selected to receive a Quilt of Valor, representing a civilian thank you to those touched by war. Jerry was also a member of the American Legion.

Following his distinguished military service, Jerry continued to serve his community he began a distinguished career in the fire service, eventually becoming Fire Chief at Pope Air Force Base. He dedicated many selfless years to protecting and serving others and was recognized with numerous medals, ribbons, certificates, and commendations for his integrity, honor, and well-earned respect. Even after retirement, Jerry continued to serve as an instructor with the GTCC Fire Science Department for ten years, teaching many past and present Greensboro firefighters.

In 1970, Jerry married the love of his life, Mary Lee Harrington Robinson, and together over forty four years built a life rooted in morals, devotion, and family. Jerry was a wonderful man who deeply loved his family and always endeavored to provide and care for them.

In retirement, he enjoyed fishing with his great granddaughter, and taking walks with Mary, never resisting the urge to pick up small treasures found along the way and finding creative ways to put them to good use. Having grown up during the Great Depression, Jerry learned early on the value of resourcefulness and efficiency. He also loved working with his hands, building birdhouses and wind chimes, cheering on the Greensboro Hornets baseball team at the old War Memorial Stadium, and watching Duke and UNC basketball with his family. He was a faithful member of Rankin Baptist Church and was also a Freemason, emphasizing friendship, charity, and moral self-improvement.

Jerry Lee Robinson will be remembered for his strength, kindness, devotion to family, and lifelong commitment to service.

Jerry is preceded in death by his late parents James and Maggie Robinson, his beloved wife Mary Robinson, two sisters Minnie Hopkins, Thelma Mae Edgerly, and brother Curtis Robinson. Surviving family include his children Brenda Hutchens, and Raymond Roberts  (Shannon); grandchildren Tracy Fulk and Teresa Gray (John); great grandchild Kimberly Swicegood (John); great-great grandchild Raelan. Special nieces Debbie (Jack) Fisher, and Kim (Jim) Kehoe. Also surviving are numerous extended family members from his hometown of Tarboro, NC. His legacy of service, love, and dedication will forever be cherished by his family and friends.

A graveside service with Military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Guilford Memorial Park, with Pastor Jeff Scronce officiating.

Mr. Robinson will lie in state at George Brothers Funeral Service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service.
