JoAnn Ervin Obituary

JoAnn Ervin, better known as Nannan, went home peacefully on March 2, 2020 at the age of 73.

JoAnn is survived by her Godson, Nicholas Tribble and wife Laura, her grandchildren, Jacob and Maiya Jane, dear friends Wanda Faye and Trisha.  She is predeceased by her father, Frank Ervin, her mother, Mildred Ervin, and her brothers, Donald and James Ervin.

JoAnn was born on May 20, 1946 and dedicated her life to the love of others.    She was a devoted Godmother, grandmother and friend.  In 1970, she met her best friend Wanda Faye and they quickly became a true-life Thelma and Louise.    Ten years later, the love of her life was born.  Not having any children of her own, she instantly became a second mother to Nicholas.  This love blossomed the day Jacob was born and just when we thought her heart couldn’t grow any larger, her precious Maiya Jane arrived and changed everything.  There are no words to express the bond between the two of them.

JoAnn made a career in administration at Healthhaven Nursing Center and retired from Moses H. Cone Hospital.  She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family, following everyone (I mean everyone!) on Facebook, listening to Elvis, family dinners, family trips, and cheering on Jacob as he took the field.  Her greatest pleasure came when Maiya Jane began to dance.  No matter the time of day or night, her world stopped as the music played.   Nannan was one of the kindest people you could ever meet and purest heart you will ever know.  She will be sorely missed.

A celebration of life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on March 9, 2020 at the George Brothers Funeral Home on 803 Greenhaven Drive in Greensboro, followed by a time to reminisce with family and friends.  In-lieu of flowers, Nannan would love nothing more than to support the dance community.  Please make donations to On Stage School of Dance in her honor to provide a scholarship for a young dancer that may not have the opportunity to do so otherwise.
