Mrs. Joan Omli Kurtz, of Greensboro, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 15, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family in her home.
Funeral service will be 1:00pm Thursday, February 20, 2025, at George Brothers Funeral Service with Mark Weatherford officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
Mrs. Kurtz was born in Chatham, NJ to the late Tobias and Alice Omli. She attended Shelton College where she spent summers traveling with the college gospel teams, and where she met her loving husband, Robert Frank Kurtz. She obtained her teaching degree and went on to teach in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for three years. Joan was active on the Vandalia Christian School Booster club and with Independent Faith Mission. She served alongside her husband at Greensboro Baptist Church as pianist, organist, and Sunday School teacher.
Mrs. Kurtz had a deep love for her family and truly had a servant’s heart. No matter the need, Joan was the one to make sure all tasks were completed. She cooked many meals for her family and visiting missionaries. Welcoming anyone around her dinner table and into her home, Joan leaves many grateful hearts to cherish her memories.
In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her brother, John Omli.
Surviving are her husband Robert Kurtz of the home; children Scott Kurtz (Karen), Kevin Kurtz, Jeff Kurtz (Sherry), Mark Kurtz (Sharron), and Karen Kurtz. She was a proud “Mawmaw” to 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brother Alan Omli (Pat) and sister-in-law Bernice Omli.
The family will receive friends from 12:00pm-1:00pm prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be left to Greensboro Baptist Church PO Box 7093 Greensboro, NC 27417 or to Independent Faith Mission PO Box 7791 Greensboro, NC 27417.
