Joanne Marie Barnes

Joanne Marie Barnes went home to her Heavenly Father on February 19th , 2025. She lost her battle with MSA, a devastating neurological disease.

Joanne was born on November 26, 1962 in Westerly Rhode Island to Franklin and Esther Barnes. She moved to Graham at the age of 10 and called N.C. her home. A 1981 graduate of Graham High School. She worked at Harris Teeter in Greensboro for 10 yrs and later worked for and retired from Fed Ex after 24 years. Joanne was a free spirit, outgoing with a great sense of humor. She loved animals and enjoyed traveling, especially annual trips to the beach.

She is survived by her mother Esther Barnes of Graham. Sisters Pat Steel of Greensboro N. C. Deborah Cook (John) of Graham N.C. Sally Tillotson (Johnnie) of Clarksville Va. Brother Frank Barnes Jr. of Graham, N.C., and several nephews.

Joanne found Christ later in life and was quick to express her joy and love for Jesus. One of her favorite verses was John 14; 2-6 “In my father’s house there are many dwelling places…”

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday March 8th at 2:00 at The Difference Church at 4530 Jessup Grove Rd., Greensboro N.C.
