Joanne Myrtle Kirkman Gurley, 89, of Greensboro, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025 at her residence.
Funeral service will be held 2:00pm Friday, February 28, 2025 at Bethlehem Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Gurley was born in Guilford County to the late Bascom and Myrtle Fields Kirkman. She graduated from Pleasant Garden High School. Joanne previously attended St. Paul Presbyterian Church and Pleasant Garden Baptist Church, and she was currently a member of Bethlehem Methodist Church. Mrs. Gurley worked for many years at Blue Bell, started at Ciba-Geigy, and retired from Novartis. She enjoyed monthly meetings with her work friends, trips to the beach, playing cards on the weekend, and spending time with her grandkids. She spent many hours with her late husband at the softball fields and at events with the Greensboro Bass Anglers Fishing Club. Joanne was an animal lover who especially loved her lap cats “Amos” and “Indy.”
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Ken Gurley, Jr. and her siblings Marie, Bud, Edith, Faye, and Lita.
Surviving are her sons Michael Gurley and Mark Gurley (Casey) and grandchildren Jacob and Olivia Gurley.
