“Joe” Joey Gray Austin, a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend went Home to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 12th 2024.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 14th at George Brothers Funeral Service with Pastor Steve Walsh officiating. The family will receive visitors from 12:00-2:00 PM prior to the service.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack M. Austin; step-mother, Kaye Austin; step-sister, Terri Phillips; and step-brother, Wayne Phillips.
Joey was born December 29th 1954 in Greensboro, North Carolina to parents Jack M. Austin and Shirley Austin King. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps. and spent most of his adult life working in the printing industry. Joe was known for constantly pranking his kid sisters growing up, cracking jokes to get a laugh, caring for others with kindness and generosity, and diligently caring for his yard (which was usually the best looking lawn on the block). To prove it, He's even seen on "Google maps" mowing his yard. He enjoyed time spent with his daughter and grandsons, watching Nascar or a football game with friends on Sunday, having breakfast at his moms on Thursdays, and shooting pool with his brother, sister and brother-in-law most Saturdays.
Joey is survived by his mother, Shirley M. King; daughter, Danielle "Deedee" Burns (Scott); brother, Jerry Austin; sisters, Dee McGee (the late Barry McGee), Joanie Holmes (Michael), and Becky Austin Long (Greg); step-sisters, Crystal Austin (Bob), Kimberly Ferrell (Chuck), and Amber Cornwell (Don); grandsons, Elijah and Quinn Burns; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
