Mr. Johnny Lewis Ely, Sr., 79, passed away Saturday morning, December 21, 2024 at his home with his family by his side.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Rock Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Jeffery Barber officiating.
Mr. Ely was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen Rich Ely; and siblings, Bobby, Jimmy, Buddy, David, Susan, and Jeff.
Johnny enjoyed spending his free time over the years fishing at the coast, playing golf, and tending to his yard. He enjoyed playing his bass guitar and the most important part of his life was his grandchildren. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he served as a combat medic and received a purple heart and two Bronze Stars among other commendations for his service and was a lifetime member of VFW.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet Ely; son, Johnny Ely, Jr. (Carla); son, Chris Ely (Sandee); grandchildren, Rubianne, Nate, Zach, Marielle, Jenna, Jake, Ben, and Kara; great-grandchildren, Lorelei, Mavis, Violet, and Wren; sister, Carolyn Gant; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends whom he loved.
The family will receive friends on Friday at the church from 1:30-2:45 pm prior to the service.
