Mr. Leslie Vaughn Mayberry, Jr., 90, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at George Brothers Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 PM Tuesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Leslie was born September 22, 1931 in Wilkes County to the late Leslie Vaughn and Nellie Maye Hayes Mayberry. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Smith Transfer after 38 years of service. He attended Badin Shores Chapel and loved his time spent with his family and friends at Badin Lake.
In addition to his parents, Leslie was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Peggy Smith Mayberry; his daughter, Pamela Darnell and 2 brothers, Neil and Max Mayberry.
Survivors include his sons, Leslie H. Mayberry (Holly) and Mark D. Mayberry (Joanne); 5 sisters, Mary Ruth Souther, Bonnie McCluskey (Harold), Faye Covert, Jeane Bare and Judy Smith; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
George Brothers Funeral Service is assisting the Mayberry family with funeral arrangements.
