Marsha Hawks Bottomley

Mrs. Marsha Ann Hawks Bottomley of Greensboro, NC went to meet her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at Moses Cone Hospital.

A graveside service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at Lakeview Memorial Park.

She was born on May 26th,1954, in Greensboro, NC to the late Wilbert “Dink” and Carol Mae Hawks. 

She graduated from Walter Hines Page High School and went on to complete an LPN nursing degree from GTCC. After completing her nursing degree, she worked briefly at Cone Hospital, before taking a job with Dr. James W. Singer, a pediatrician here in Greensboro.

She married Gary Bottomley on August 4th,1979 underneath the weeping willow tree in the backyard of their new home.  They went on to have 4 children: Brittany, Layne, Mitch, and Will.

After working with Dr. Singer for 10 plus years, Marsha became a stay-at-home mom.  She would frequently volunteer at various school functions, but her love was volunteering at the Book Fair each year.  In addition to being a stay-at-home mom and volunteering, she also kept other children in her home and loved them like her own.  As her children grew up, she began to work part time for Evergreens Nursing Home and then moved to Well Springs Retirement Community. 

In 2006, Marsha became a Grandmother to Madalyn and Matthew.  In 2016, her family grew again with the addition of Lilly, followed by Isabella and Josey in 2017.  Being a Grandmother was the light of her life and all of them brought her lots of joy.

She was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and attended Mount Hope Baptist Church with her family.  She then attended Lighthouse Baptist Church with her family and grandchildren.

She was a very kind, loving and generous woman to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.  Her whole life was dedicated to loving her family, extended family, friends, and neighbors to the best of her abilities.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Bottomley; children Brittany (William) Welborn, Layne (Randall) Cox, Mitch (Kadie) Bottomley and Will (Tracy) Bottomley; sister Jean (Jack) Redden; grandchildren Madalyn, Matthew, Lilly, Isabella, and Josey; great granddaughter to be born to Madalyn in June, 2025 and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family who loved her immensely.  

She was preceded in death by her parents Wilbert “Dink” and Carol Mae Hawks; brother Billy, nieces Ashley and Addie; cousins Debbie and Rex Blancett and John Mitchell; Aunt Virginia Wilson, and other loved ones who have gone on before.
