Michael Long was a free-spirit and untamed soul that was a loving father, brother, son, and a fierce friend to many people. Mike, or as many knew him “Lover Long” was born to Milford Duane Long and Della Mae King Long in Greensboro, NC on October 21st, 1968. Mike passed away on Friday, July 9th, 2021 at his home in Madison, NC. He is survived by his father Duane Long, Stepmother Margaret Long, Daughter Cassidy Bliss, step brothers Scott Summerlin, Kyle Peterson, Bradley Peterson, Sonny Summerlin, sister Garie Lynn Williams, and many close friends and family that loved him dearly. Mike’s son, Kohen was an integral part of Mike’s life. Kohen was an incredible motocross racer and they shared many good memories together. The most important thing to Mike was his kids. Mike was a truly gifted athlete as a young man in basketball, baseball and football and won many championships. Mike graduated from Ben L. Smith High School in 1987. He was part of the legendary “Smith Crew” who grew up together and continued to stay in touch until his passing. Mike spent much time with his father Duane, and they loved working together, fishing, and taking beach trips. He worked construction most of his life and co-owned a business with his stepbrother, Scott, whom he had a deep bond with. Mike faced many challenges in life and always tried to make the best of them. He was known for “telling it like it was”, and always found a way to laugh and smile even in the hardest times. Mike would do anything for those that he loved. His friends describe him as a good soul, a terrific guy, of having a big heart, and being well loved. Mike was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed and highly regarded in our hearts and memories. In Lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the American Cancer Society.
