Mr. Morris Wayne Thomas aka Lawnmowerman, 73, of Greensboro, passed away on July 12, 2024, at Beacon Place. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Grace Baptist Church on 2008 Fairfax Road in Greensboro. The burial will follow at the Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church, one hour prior to the service. Wayne was born on March 17, 1951, in Rockingham County to the late Morris Thomas and Gladys Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Willa Gray Locklear; sister, Camilla Travis and brother, Ernest Thomas; and step-father William Hill. Wayne loved to mow his yard and tinker with lawnmowers. He was affectionately known as “the lawnmowerman.” He also loved to cook out on his grill and play Santa Claus. Another one of his favorite pastimes was fishing. He especially enjoyed fishing in Stamey’s Pond, at Kure Beach and at the jetty at Fort Fisher. His favorite saying was always “Git-R-Done” and will surely be missed by all that knew and loved him. Wayne is survived by his wife of 31 years, Alice Herring Thomas; son, Derwin Locklear (September); granddaughter, Calista Gray Locklear; great granddaughter, Indya Gray Locklear Strickland and his step brother, James “Jimmy” Hill (Kathi), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends after the interment in the Fellowship Hall.
