Mr. Avery Vernon Osborne, age 98, went home to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Moses Cone Hospital.
A funeral service will be conducted 2:00pm Friday, May 15, 2026, at Community Baptist Church with Dr. Chris Davis and Rev. JR Gossett officiating the service. Avery will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife, of seventy years, Irene Dodson Osborne, in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm -2:00pm Friday in the Family Life Center of Community Baptist Church.
Born in Guilford County to the late Vernon and Sara Hennis Osborne, Avery attended Sumner School and was a long-time member of Community Baptist Church He retired from the City of High Point as a mechanic and served his country in the National Guard. Avery enjoyed many hobbies including building rocking chairs, playing and making fiddles, and crocheting many blankets, that were distributed to nursing homes and hospitals, through the Women’s Mission Society (WMS) of Community Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife Irene Osborne and parents, He was preceded in death by his sisters Sara Osborne Sharpe and Cordella Osborne Blackwood and brother Lawrence Osborne.
Avery is survived by his children Jade Osborne (Donna), Geraldine Wilson, and Gene Lee Osborne (Bobbie); granddaughter Diane Boggs
In honor of Avery’s life, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, 101 Centreport Dr. Suite 100, Greensboro, NC 27409.
Avery will be remembered as having the heart of a servant and a friend to many.
