Mr. Wilmouth “Doug” Douglas Shores, Jr., age 78, passed away Saturday August 31, 2024, at
Wesley Long Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Thursday, September 5, at George Brothers Funeral
Service with Rev. Chris Davis officiating the service. A burial will follow at Westminster Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am – 11:00am at the funeral home.
Doug was a kind and humble man born in Guilford County to the late Wilmouth Douglas and
Frances Spivey Shores, Sr. He was a graduate of Northeast Guilford High School and was drafted
to play baseball for the Boston Red Socks farm team. He retired from the Army National Guard
after twenty years of service and retired as Captain, after twenty-four years, from the
University of North Carolina at Greensboro Police Department.
Doug is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years Gloria Shores; daughter Tammy Routh (Andy);
son Wilmouth “Doug” Douglas Shores, III (Kristin); four grandchildren Andrew Routh (Emily),
Madison Routh, Paige Shores, and Wilmouth “Wil” Douglas Shores, IV. Also surviving are his
siblings Dean Shores, Janice Oliver (Javie) and Gloria Allen, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Community Baptist Church, 1330 Burnetts Chapel Road Greensboro, NC 27406.
