Mr. Heston Cooksey, Jr., age 76, went Home to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday June 18, 2024, at Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Saturday at Community Baptist Church. A burial will follow at Burnetts Chapel Church Cemetery with military honors given by Randolph County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30pm in the Family Life Center of Community Baptist Church.
Mr. Cooksey was born in Lawrence County, Kentucky to the late Heston and Katherine Sword Cooksey, Sr. He was a graduate of Virginia Western Community College with a Engineer and Business Degree. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, for 8 1/2 years, serving in the Vietnam War and receiving the Bronze Star Medal. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad, with thirty-four years of service, as an electrical engineer. His hobbies included billiards, fishing, and traveling.
In addition to his parents, Heston was preceded in death by a sister Fayette York of Columbus, Ohio.
Heston is survived by his wife Phyllis Cooksey of Greensboro; children Jeffery Cooksey of Huntington, West Virginia, Jason Cooksey of Ashland, Kentucky, and Niki Hundley of Louisa, Kentucky; stepdaughters Tina Poindexter and Jennifer Baldwin both of Greensboro; stepson Chris Baldwin of Greensboro; sisters Fern Schrickel (Carl) of Kent Ohio, and Patsy Orlovsky of Louisville, Kentucky; brother Jim Cooksey (Carol) of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
