Mr. LaRoy "Sonny" Westmoreland

Mr. LaRoy “Sonny” Westmoreland, age 80, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at his residence in Trinity, NC.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 22, 2025, at George Brothers Funeral Service, with Rev. J.R. Gossett officiating the service. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Liberty, NC following the service.

A native of Liberty, NC, Sonny was born to the late Laurie and Ruby Farmer Westmoreland.  He was a graduate of Liberty High School where he enjoyed playing baseball and furthered his education at Brevard College. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served as a Deacon at First United Church of Christ in Liberty and retired from Gilbarco after many years of service. After retirement, he went back to work for Auto- System & Services.

Sonny is survived by his loving wife, of thirty-two years, Rachel Gourley Westmoreland; brother-in-law David Gourley; sister-in-law Shelby “Jean” Duncan (Roy). Also surviving are many cousins including Derinda Smith (Randy) and Randall Smith (Kelli) and many other Westmoreland family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Grace Baptist Church, 2008 Fairfax Rd. Greensboro, NC 27407.
