Mrs. Mary Walker Hudgins

Mrs. Mary Ruth Walker Hudgins, age 73, went Home to her Heavenly Father on Sunday September 28, 2025, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.

A funeral service will be held 11:00am Tuesday at George Brothers Funeral Service with burial to follow at 3:00pm at Rock Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Independence, Virginia. The family will receive friends Tuesday beginning at 10:00am at the funeral home.

Born May 19, 1952, in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Rev. C L and Margaret Walker, Mary attended high school in Henderson, NC. She gave her life to the Lord under the preaching of her father at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Suffolk, VA where he pastored. She was a member of New Testament Baptist Church. In 1996, Mary married Tom and made her home in Kernersville. Mary was a hairdresser most of her life, most often in her home. When her health allowed, she volunteered at Bradford Nursing Center in Kernersville fixing hair for the residents there. Mary loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Robert Kornegay, sons Jason and Rodney Kornegay; brothers Roger Walker and Richard Walker; brother-in-law Rev. Dallas George.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband of thirty years Tom Hudgins of Kernersville; stepchildren Clifford Hudgins (Kathy), Darren Hudgins, and Leslie Hudgins; sister Glenda George; sisters-in-law Elaine Walker Stratton (Rick) and Cheryl Walker. Also surviving are her grandchildren Jessica Heath, Hannah Worst, and Skylar Kornegay; great grandchildren Adelynn, Rowyn, Odin, Azalea, and Lennox.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
