Mrs. Ruth Hemphill Capps, age 97, passed away Friday September 19, 2025, at her residence in Julian, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday at George Brothers Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Gilmore Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00am Thursday at the funeral home.
A native of Guilford County, NC, Mrs. Capps was born to the late Charlie and Mabel York Hemphill. She was a 1946 graduate of Nathanael Greene High School. She attended Sharpe Road Baptist Church, and was a member of the American Business Women’s Association. She was also a member of the Southeast Guilford Civitan Club holding many leadership positions and served at the district level leadership for North Carolina District East Civitan. After many years of service, she retired from Sears Roebuck Company in their Greensboro mail order warehouse and the High Point Retail store.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Edward Capps; son Thomas Alan Capps; grandson Paul Stephen Bollinger, Jr.; one sister Mary Wilson, and two brothers, Clarence and Henry Hemphill.
Mrs. Capps is survived by her children Larry Douglas Capps, Rebecca Jane Swing, and James Duane Capps and his wife Lisa. Also surviving are six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the nursing and physical staff at Centerwell Home Health and Dr. David Swayne and staff of Eagle Triad Family Practice.
In honor of Mrs. Capps, memorials may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
