Nathan Phipps Obituary

Nathan Timothy Phipps, age 21, left “this wonderful yet imperfect Earth” on Saturday May 15, 2021 at his home in McLeansville, NC. His loving mother, father and brother were at his side.  He was born in Greensboro, NC on July 8, 1999 to Jeffrey and Benita Ward Phipps.

Funeral will be 3:00 PM Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church at 5120 Burlington Road in Greensboro.  The family will receive friends from 2:00-2:45 PM Thursday prior to the service at the church. Committal service will be private in the church cemetery.

Nathan was a 2018 graduate of Eastern Guilford High School, where he was an honor student and played tennis.  He briefly attended UNC-Greensboro before being diagnosed with cancer, beginning a two-year struggle with the disease.  He planned to major in biology because he loved everything about nature.

Nathan was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.  He was also a member of Boy Scout Troop 208, where his leaders affectionately called him “Wild Man”. He enjoyed many camping trips with the troop going hiking, canoeing, biking, etc.  Nathan also loved to travel and was fortunate enough to make trips with his family to visit the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, the rainforests in Washington State, to see the Pacific Ocean sea stacks and walk among the giant sequoia trees in California.  Of course, he also loved the mountains and beaches of North Carolina.

Nathan enjoyed watching Carolina Panthers games, playing board games, and playing video games. His favorite video games included Minecraft, the Pokémon series, and all things Mario Brothers.  He especially enjoyed outracing everyone at Mario Kart.

Nathan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ollie Ray and Lettie King Phipps, and Daniel Timothy Jr. and Barbara Whichard Ward.

He is survived by his parents, Jeffrey and Benita Phipps; his brother Jason Daniel Phipps; aunts and uncles, Miley and Greg Gang, Kathy and Jimmy White, Russell Phipps, Dannie Ward and Sherry Robison, Celeste and David Wood; cousins Pilar Pees and husband Philip, Evan Wood, Hayden Wood, Gracie Phipps, Austin Pees, Samantha Pees, and Landon Pees.
