Ola Weathers Bowman

Ola Weathers Bowman, 101, of Julian, NC died peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at her residence.

Ola, a native of Cleveland County, was a 1942 graduate of Appalachian Training School for Teachers, now known as Appalachian State University. She taught school in Polkville, NC and later at Nathanael Greene Elementary School and Southeast Junior High School in Guilford County. Ola was a member of Pleasant Union United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was active with the United Methodist Women. She was an active member of the Nathanael Greene Garden Club. She also volunteered with Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital and Meals on Wheels for many years.

Ola is preceded in death by her husband, Dwight G. Bowman along with her siblings, Rufus Lee Weathers, Pantha W. Park, Marceline W. Wood, Thomas Weathers, Elbridge Weathers, and Bynum Weathers.

Anyone who knew Ola, knew family was important to her. She is survived by her sons, Chris Bowman (Jayne) and David Bowman (Terry); grandchildren, Ryan Bowman (Mary), Paige Garland (Brad), Ruffin Bowman (Genny), and Neil Bowman (Erica); along with seven great grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews.

The family extends a very special acknowledgement of gratitude to Ola’s caregivers Diane Harrelson, Cindy Rowell, Theresa Gayten, Glenda Hensley, and Therese Denton as well as the wonderful nurses from Hospice of Asheboro for their care and compassion.

Memorial service will be 2:30 PM Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Pleasant Union United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
