Pastor Lee Wendell Mead, 90, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Alamance Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00pm Friday, January 30, 2026, at George Brothers Funeral Service. The burial will follow at Gilmore Memorial Park, in Julian, NC, with military honors given by Randolph County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm - 2:00pm at the funeral home.
Pastor Mead was born in Moscow, PA to the late Harold and Margaret Davies Mead. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served faithfully as a pastor more than fifty years. His ministry began at Willseyville Community Baptist Church in New York where he served the congregation for thirty years. Pastor Mead was then called to serve at West Lenox Baptist Church in Pennsylvania where he served the congregation for ten years. He was also called to serve Shadow of the Cross Baptist Church in Asheboro, NC where he has faithfully served for the last thirteen years. While pastoring, he always served the children of the community, for over fifty years, by driving the local school bus. Pastor Mead’s legacy will live on through the many lives he touched through the years.
In addition to his parents, Pastor Mead was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Leida Shaylor Mead.
Pastor Mead is survived by his children, Wendell Mead (Amy), Brent Mead (Mary), and Joy Abels (Stephen); thirteen precious grandchildren; six precious great grandchildren; beloved sister Graceann Kellogg and brother Timoty Mead (Joyce).
