Patricia Thompson Fricke (93), passed away peacefully, Wednesday afternoon, August 27, 2025. Pat was born in Youngstown, Ohio on September 8, 1931, to the late James and Hazel Thompson. Pat attended Kent State University where she became a proud member of Chi Omega sorority. Her fondness of the sorority’s “owl” mascot led to her large, eclectic collection of owl figurines, prints, and many other items. She graduated from Kent State with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1954 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1955. While there, she met and married Robert Alan Fricke on March 21, 1954. After residing in Youngstown, OH, Atlanta, GA, Pittsburgh, PA and Charlottesville, VA and having five boys along the way they settled in Greensboro, NC in 1972. Patricia and Robert opened and operated Thrifty Rent-A-Car until 1982. She was an active member of the Ragsdale High School Booster Club and never missed any of her sons’ football games or wrestling matches. She will forever be known for her “Sausage Bread” that she made with love for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Fricke (1982), and son, Mark Fricke (2021). Patricia is survived by her sons Robert J. Fricke (Lisa), Dr. Jeffrey Fricke (Velvet), Gregory Fricke and Gary Fricke (Andrea); grandchildren, Robert C. Fricke (Lindsay), Erik Fricke, Sarah Campbell (Ryan), Jennifer Woodard (Anthony), John Fricke and Bruce Fricke; great grandchildren, Aiden Hawkins, Harper Fricke, Beckett Fricke, Hudson Woodard, Sadie Woodard, and Cameron Campbell. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. The family would like to say a big thank you to Annie and Carl Kitchings for their friendship and outstanding care of our mom.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 6PM -8PM at George Brothers Funeral Service, 803 Greenhaven Dr., Greensboro, NC. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 10AM on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 2105 W. Market St., Greensboro, NC. Interment will follow immediately after at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 W. Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC.
