Peggy Sasser Woody, 87, of McLeansville, NC left her earthly home to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 15th, 2024. Peggy was born on May 22, 1937, in Jonesboro, NC (now Sanford, NC), the daughter of the late Pete Marshall and Ella Yarbourgh Sasser.
Peggy attended Lees-Mcrae College in Banner Elk, NC where she met her best friend and her husband of almost 67 years. She was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church for 60 years where she served her Heavenly Father in many different ministries throughout those six decades. She taught Sunday School to all ages from preschoolers to Senior Adults while also serving in the nursery, on the visitation team, shut-in ministry, church choir, vacation bible school, women’s ministry, children’s church and a prayer warrior on the prayer team. Peggy was serving as the Ladies I Class Sunday school teacher until going to her Heavenly Home.
The majority of her career was spent as secretary & treasurer for Guilford County Schools serving the students & staff of Northeast Guilford High School in McLeansville, NC for 28 years. She impacted the lives of so many teenagers for about three decades and it’s safe to say that most every student that passed through the halls of Northeast Guilford High School knew Mrs. Woody or “Mrs. Peggy.” Thousands of High School students have sat across the desk of Mrs. Woody being encouraged, mentored, consoled or just entertained. Many times she was the person who would listen to their many needs during vulnerable times in their lives and/or just be there to chat.
Her “Happy Place” as everyone knows has always been White Lake, NC where she met countless friends and had so many fond, happy memories with them and her family. For the majority of her life, she spent every summer there with her two children while her husband Lynn would come down on the weekends. Once she & Lynn retired in 1995, they spent their summers together at the lake enjoying time with their friends, kids & grandkids cooking out, making "Pop's" ice cream, swimming, skiing & tubing behind their boat.
Peggy's primary passion was sharing the love of Jesus Christ to others, encouraging them to trust in Him and have eternal life through Him. Her other passions included her holiday yard inflatables that everyone in the community would slow down to see and her array of collectibles which were anything from angels to nativity scenes and not to forget the art of collecting dust on her many collections that she always joked about.
Finally, no one could forget about her Birthday & Christmas card ministry over the years where she would mail out thousands of Birthday & Christmas cards to individuals and families which always had a personal inspirational message and also included a small angel.
Surviving are her husband, Sidney Lynn Woody; daughter, Janet Woody Carter and husband Freddie of Randleman, NC; granddaughters, Abby (Fiance’ Brett) and Sarah; son, Sidney Randolph “Randy” Woody and wife Paula of McLeansville, NC; grandchildren, Tristan and wife Emily, Mikayla, Selah, Brody, Kyra and Canaan; great-granddaughter, Marjorie; brother, Bobby Sasser of Nashville, TN; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother, Waylon Sasser and wife Sally.
