Raleigh Autry Obituary

Mr. Raleigh Autry, 83, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 at his home with his family by his side.

Mr. Autry will be available for viewing at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 21, 2021 and his funeral service will begin at 2:30 pm at George Brothers Funeral Service with Wayne Welch officiating. There will be a private burial at Guilford Memorial Park.

Raleigh served his country after high school by joining the United States Air Force. Returning from Italy he was employed by P. Lorillard as a machine operator then floor supervisor. Retiring after 30 years, he spent his leisure time raising a vegetable garden and fruit trees, which he loved to share with friends and neighbors.

In the late 70’s his golfing skills were recognized at local courses throughout the area and it was suggested that he should try his luck on the PGA circuit.

Stemming from his childhood love for hunting he became a master marksman and insisted on loading his own ammunition.  He took a special interest in the local Montagnard community and his hunting skills fed their community for years.

He accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 1961. He taught the adult Sunday school class and served on the Deacon board at True Light Baptist Church for many years. Later, he led Bible Studies and served as a Deacon at Westover Church. His knowledge of Bible made some suggest he should become a pastor, although he could never feel worthy of such a position.  The seeds he sowed for the cause of Jesus Christ will continue to grow for years.

Raleigh will be remembered for his love and dedication to his Lord Jesus, family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Ronnie Autry (Kim), Richard Autry and Jennifer Hull (Ehren); grandchildren, Kellee (Brad), Megan King (Matt), Casey Flanders (David), Halie Biggs and Will Biggs; brother, Jerry Autry (Sue); and a host of family members and friends whom he loved

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
