Born and raised in the Jewish faith, he grew up having a strong love for God and his roots. As a young man, he was introduced to Jesus Christ. After studying scripture and much prayer, Jesus- Yeshua- Messiah, revealed himself to Ed. He would always say, “I am a completed Jew. I did not convert to Christianity; I am completed by it!” When Ed yielded to the call to preach in 1980 at Hendersonville Nazarene Camp Meeting with the late Rev. Wyatt. H. Gentry. Ed started his journey serving as Pastor in the Nazarene Church for many years before getting the call to serve in the United Methodist Church. Rev. Tapper was a Western North Carolina United Methodist Church Minister serving many churches and communities in Randolph, Davie, and Rockingham counties. Ed attended High Point Point College/ University, John Wesley College, and graduated from Duke University Divinity Class of 95'. In 1996, Rev. Ed Tapper became an ordained Associate Member at Lake Junaluska Western North Carolina United Methodist Church Conference with Bishop Bevel Jones. As a messianic believer, Ed shared the Passover/ Seder Service and revealed how Christ fits into the Passover. That message was a passion of his. He led many Revivals and special services where ever the Lord would lead him, no matter the denomination. Rev. Tapper served as a Volunteer Chaplain at Randolph Hospital, Davie Co. Hospital, Forsyth Medical Center, Wake Forest Baptist, Moses Cone, and Wesley Long. He also served with Prison Ministries as well.
Ed had many hobbies some of those include playing the trombone, fishing, bowling, and golfing. He really loved to watch and play football. Rev. Tapper loved the N.Y. Giants and the Carolina Panthers. He also loved to watch his favorite basketball team, the Duke Blue Devils. Rev. Ed Tapper never met a stranger, loved everyone, and gave the very best hugs. He believed in the power of prayer and to love God and to love one another. Rev. Tapper had a sincere passion for people and would share his testimony and love for Christ at every opportunity. He loved to visit with people and always made the time for them and was a loving Pastor. He was always on the phone ready to help and pray with them no matter the hour. Rev. ET had a great sense of humor and was a good sport too! He absolutely loved being left handed. There was nothing better to Ed than a thick juicy steak cooked medium rare with a big baked potato loaded with butter, but please... hold the cheese! Ed loved a good all beef hotdog topped with spicy brown mustard and sauerkraut, no red hot dogs please.
Ed treasured his family and bragged on each and every one of them. He was a marvelous loving and caring husband. Nancy and he made the best team and were true soulmates in love and in their ministry for the Lord. He was a wonderful father who loved all his children. Ed always made time and put their needs first. They will tell you he was the best Daddy ever! Rev. Ed Tapper was a True Patriot who loved his country. Most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
