Rev. Jack Oakes Obituary

Rev. Jack Lee Oakes, 88, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday October 22, 2023 as he was surrounded by his loving family.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Friday at Grace Baptist Church on Fairfax Rd.  A burial will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. JR Gossett officiating the services.  The family will receive friends from 5:00pm - 7:00pm Thursday at George Brothers Funeral Service.

Jack served his Lord and Savior as a minister for fifty-two years.  He pastored Friendship Baptist Church for forty-six years and Grace Gospel Tabernacle for six years.  His ministries provided for so many people and touched many lives over the years.

He was a loving husband to his wife Betty Oakes for sixty-five years, who was always by his side.  Together they counseled, ministered, were a place of refuge, and provided a loving source of comfort for those in need.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Oakes, son Tony Oakes, his mother and father, and six siblings.

He is survived by his loving and faithful daughter Angela “Darlene” Flynn (Michael Flynn); grandchildren Wesley Oakes, Heather Snelling (Nathan Snelling), and Brandon Oakes; great-grandchildren Reagan Oakes, Anna Oakes, Addison Snelling, Alex Oakes, and Ethan Snelling; and two sisters Barbara Pegg and Faye Dillon.
