Richard Burrus Cates, age 78, born in Greensboro, NC, on January 18th, 1946, passed away peacefully at his home on December 26, 2024.
Richard is survived by his sons and loving and devoted wife, Wanda Jean Sparks Cates, to whom he was married for 58 years - a partnership filled with loyalty, dedication, and shared memories.
In addition to his loving wife, Richard is survived by his children William Richard Cates (Cindy),and Ronald Brian Cates (Susana).
And a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather to:
Cassey (Christopher), Katie (Michael), Michael, Lilly, John Griffin (Alanna), Matthew Griffin (Hanna), Grace Griffin, Sophie, Cayden, Charley, and McKenna
Richard was a hardworking man with an unmatched work ethic. For over fifty years, he dedicated himself to Seager Waterproofing, leaving behind a legacy of determination and reliability that inspired those around him. He believed in providing for his family and took pride in the fruits of his labor.
Richard was a fierce competitor who loved bowling and skeet shooting, always approaching his hobbies with the same determination and passion he brought to every aspect of his life.
Beyond his work, Richard's greatest joy came from his family. Though he was sometimes a man of strong convictions and firm opinions, he held an unwavering love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—a love that will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Authora Care Collective for the compassionate care provided to Richard in his final days.
A private family funeral service was held at George Brothers Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Richard's name may be directed to the Greensboro office of Authora Care Collective at 2504 Summit Ave, Greensboro, NC 27409.
