Ricky "Rick" Lynn Oakley passed away on June 29, 2025, at his home near Greensboro.
He was the son of Edmund Thomas Oakley, Sr. and Nell Cox Presnell Oakley of Burlington, born June 3, 1959.
He was an accountant at Leon's Beauty School and Salons for thirty years before retiring in 2014 to pursue business interests, remodeling, hiking and travel to the beach and mountains.
He is survived by his brother, Edmund Thomas Oakley, Jr. and wife, Cathy; three nieces, Nikki Oakley Wright and husband, Jeff, Michelle McNaught and husband, Chris, and Shawn Smith and husband, Jamie; three nephews, Stephen Oakley, Bryan Oakley and wife, Jessica, and Robbie Boone; special friends, Mark Wilson and Ronna Bishop.
Rick was most kind hearted and had an eternal, remarkable sense of humor. He rescued both pets and people by providing a home and support.
He almost never complained and was an optimist. He rescued others but did not feel the need to be rescued himself. So he did not share his pain nor worry others because he always hoped to survive. He was the true embodiment of how it is better to give than receive.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to one's favorite charity.
