Mr. Robert Earl Johnson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Feb 18, 2025, at the age of 86, to be with his Lord and Savior.
Bob was born in Bergholz, Ohio and grew up in Minerva, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Robert and Marguerite Eleanor Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of 67 years, his sister Carol Martin and her husband Bill, his sister Patty Tietze, his daughter Barbie Pignotti and her fiancé Phil Faris, his son Mike Johnson and his wife Tammy, his grandson Tony Pignotti, his granddaughter Katie Johnson and her partner Andrew Lintz, and his grandson Taylor Johnson and his wife Joelle.
Bob retired from Timken Roller Bearing, setting up machines for operators to run. His value to the company was so great, they asked him to write training manuals before he retired. He had a special talent and knew how to make the equipment run smoothly. In his early years, Bob was involved in the Rotary Club, coached little league baseball, played golf and tennis, and loved to fish and hunt. He always made it a priority to enjoy time with his wife, family, and friends. He loved to get involved in group functions. New acquaintances were quickly welcomed as friends.
Golf was a passion throughout his life that he passed on to his children. He had 2 hole-in-ones. One was at Lake Mohawk Golf Club in Ohio and one was at Myrtle Beach National North King’s Course in South Carolina. He loved to ask how many strokes other players were going to give him as part of a golf wager.
When Bob and Pat moved to Myrtle Beach, they helped organize many homeowner association parties. One of their favorite pastimes was sitting in their garage with their dog, Bailey, talking to all the neighbors that passed by their home. When the garage door went up, friends migrated for jokes, laughs, and a drink or two.
Bob was a handyman, who could repair anything. He knew how to organize a fish fry. He was an excellent dancer. He taught his children how to golf, fish, hunt, roller-skate, and play tennis. He also taught them how to respect others, love family and friends, and enjoy life. He set the example of how to be a good man. He loved to grill steaks, while sipping a bourbon. He loved to joke around, have fun, and play games and cards. He had the “Johnson” luck when playing blackjack, poker, and cribbage. He is our hero!
If you would like to share a memory with the family of your time with Bob, please add to the Tribute Wall.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Beacon Place at AuthoraCare (formerly Hospice of Greensboro), in his honor, would be appreciated. The kind people at Beacon Place took exceptional care of dad and the family during his final days.
