Roddy Harper Fields

Mr. Roddy Harper Fields, 89, departed this life on January 22, 2025.

There will be a private graveside service at Gilmore Memorial Park.

Mr. Fields was born on September 1, 1935, in Guilford County, to the late Robah and Martha Fields. He graduated from NC State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in agriculture. He was always proud of the fact that he was part of the last graduating class to receive a sheep’s skin degree, before the university changed to paper degrees. He was formerly employed with General Metals, Inc. for 29 years and was retired from Carolina Material Handling after 13 years of service. He was also a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, a veteran of the United States Army and was an avid golfer, always enjoying his time playing golf with his friends and always enjoyed the two trips to Long Beach each year with his golf buddies.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Fields; sister, Ann Harper Padgett and grandsons, Benjamin Wade Pulliam and Tripp Justin Fields.

Mr. Fields is survived by his children, Chris Fields (Kathy), Rebecca Fields and Carla Parker; 2 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; Brother David Fields (Dianne) and a host of other loving extended family and friends.

The family would like to give thanks to the staff of Randolph Hospice House for the care they gave Mr. Fields, and the staff of George Brothers Funeral Service in the handling of Mr. Fields’ services.
