Mr. Ronald Gordon Muir, 89, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at his home. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Gloria Wetmore Muir; parents Gordon and Isa Nivins Muir and brother Bill Muir
Ron was born in Seaforth, Ontario, Canada on March 23, 1936. He began a successful career with the Ontario Hockey League before being drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks. He went on to play for the Greensboro Generals from 1960-1969 during which time he played the position of Left Wing #6 and served as team captain. He scored over 100 points two years running. Ronald also played in Canadian professional baseball, which he ultimately gave up for his successful hockey career. While playing hockey in Greensboro, he also was a golf pro at Monticello Golf Course. He was a member of Bryan Park, and once scored 73 when he was 75 years old. During the off seasons, and once he moved on from professional sports, he worked as a car salesman, eventually retiring from The Greensboro Auto Auction.
When not involved in his professional pursuits, Ron was a strong family man. He enjoyed spending time celebrating with his family. He was known for hosting March Parties to celebrate the many spring birthdays in his family. He also loved walks with his shih tzu, Chase.
He is survived by his children Elaine Miller (Eric), Susie Barham (Leonard), Sandy Elliott (Jay), Cindy Creed (Greg) and Jason Roberts (Jennifer); grandchildren Emily Pierce (Ted), Melissa Miller, Deanna Miller, Joshua Elliott (Jessica), Lynsey Elliott, Lance Elliott, Meagan Crook (Darel), Zack Creed, and Taylor Creed; great-grandchildren, Everett Pierce, Roan Elliott, Meris Elliott, Hayven Crook and Harlow Crook; nephews Ron Muir, Jr. and Derrick Muir of Ontario Canada.
