The City of Greensboro’s “Tooth Fairy” has gained her heavenly wings. On Saturday, March 14, 2026, Rosalie Shields Craine—affectionately known as the Tooth Fairy—passed away. She was born on November 3, 1937, in Roxboro, North Carolina, to the late Raleigh Thomas Shields and Martha Ellen Briggs Shields.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Clarice “Tommie” Reichl, and her brothers, Samuel P. Shields and William “Bud” Shields. She is survived by her sister, Nancy S. Wyrick.
She is also survived by her daughter, Michele Talley Hebbard (Leigh); her grandchildren, Michael Szychowicz (Julie and their children, Chase and Jacob), Monica Ryan (Travis and their children, Tyler and Maisy), and Adam and Kayley Hebbard; as well as Michele’s father, Vernon Craine, and many nieces and nephews.
Rosalie was a woman of many talents. For more than 50 years, she worked diligently and served faithfully as a member of South Elm Street Baptist Church and the City of Greensboro.
All services will be held at South Elm Street Baptist Church, 4212 South Elm Eugene Street, Greensboro, NC. Visitation will be Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be held Friday, March 20, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., with a graveside service to follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
