Samuel Elwood Calhoun Obituary

Mr. Samuel “Elwood” Calhoun, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Friday evening, April 25, 2025. He was at Wesley Long Hospital surrounded by his devoted family.

Memorial service will be held at George Brothers Funeral Service with Ron Fields officiating on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at 3:00pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and other times at the home.

Mr. Calhoun was born in Guilford County on May 12, 1939 according to the family Bible, to the late Robert and Lucile Wyrick Calhoun. He was a member of Lankford Memorial Baptist Church. Elwood retired after 40 years of service with Amp Inc. as a die repairman. Elwood enjoyed spending time with his buddies at the store, solving all the world’s problems over Pepsi and coffee – served black and with free refills. You could also catch him enjoying a Bojangles ham biscuit at any point in the day. Samuel was a loving husband of 60 years, father, grandfather, great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Elwood is preceded in death by his siblings Annette Puckett, Leo Calhoun, Harold Calhoun, Sue Martin, and Jerry Calhoun.

Surviving are his wife and the love of his life, Mrs. Betty Chandler Calhoun; sons Stephen Calhoun (Alexia), Douglas Calhoun (Cheri), and Michael Calhoun; his grandchildren Dylan Calhoun, Andy Calhoun, Caitlin Calhoun, Emily Calhoun, Monica Calhoun, Phillip Calhoun, Nathan Amenda-Calhoun, Cydney Amenda and Jacob Alexander Calhoun; his great-grandchild Ryker Calhoun. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.
