For those who wish to pay their respects, Sharon Hutchens will lie in state on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 1 – 2 PM at Pleasant Union Church. A church and graveside service will be held at 2 PM followed by a light reception in the fellowship hall where family will receive guests.

Sharon was born on June 27, 1960, in Julian, North Carolina to Clifford Howard Clapp and Lillian Flinchum Clapp. Sharon grew up working on her parents’ farm. After she married her husband, Ronnie Hutchens, she moved right down the road from her parents’ house, where her husband continues to farm. Sharon worked as an underwriter for Penn National Insurance for over 30 years. Sharon was always crafty. She loved scrapbooking, making homemade cards to give to friends and family, and teaching card-making classes. Sharon loved God and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of Pleasant Union Church, where she enjoyed volunteering and attending church with her family. She was an amazing cook and baker. She loved cooking meals for her whole family and would eagerly cook anything on the spot for them. Sharon would open her home to anyone who came and there was always an extra seat at her table. She had the greenest of thumbs and loved flowers and gardening. Pansies were her favorite and she always said, “Look at the pansies, they are smiling back at you.” Each year, she would plant a variety of flowers, and grow her own tomatoes, squash, banana peppers, and parsley. She also had a wide array of indoor plants that she loved to tend to.

Sharon was blessed with whom she always referred to as her “three beautiful children” and two amazing grandchildren. Sharon loved being a mother and always said that, “having children was the best thing she has ever done.” She was an amazing mother and grandmother and she loved her children and grandchildren more than words can describe. She would do everything she could to help and support them and would always drop whatever she was doing to support them.

Sharon was preceded in death by her mother and father, Clifford and Lillian Clapp.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Ronnie Hutchens, her loving children, Marshall Hutchens and wife Haley Hutchens, Lauren Kratovil and husband, Morgan Kratovil, and Adam Hutchens, her loving grandchildren, Jaxon and Olivia Hutchens, her siblings, Janet Howard, Debra Clapp, and Phil Clapp, along with a host of nieces and nephews, and a community of family and friends that loved her.
