Shelby Jean Amick Capps, 79, of Whitsett, passed away on May 22, 2026, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 26, at Sharpe Road Baptist Church with Dr. Alton Cook and Pastor Nathan Whipple officiating. The burial will follow at Gilmore Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 12 noon to 2:00 pm, prior to the service.
She was born on December 10, 1946, in Guilford County, to the late Everette Lee Amick and Flossie Agnes Gerner Amick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Barry Wayne Capps and sister, Hilda Coble. She was a faithful and longtime member of Sharpe Road Baptist Church and was a graduate of Southeast Guilford High School. She worked as a teacher’s assistant and retired from Guilford County Schools. She loved life and was known to have never met a stranger. She will be remembered as a social butterfly and also loved her beloved dogs.
Surviving are her children, Todd Capps (Kim) and Donnelle Capps Copeland (Tracy); her grandchildren, Hannah Faith Lee (Justin), Haley Elizabeth Justice (Heith) and Sarah Katelyn Capps; great grandchildren, Boone Lee, Ari Justice and Emma Justice; sister, Linda Breedlove (Gary) and brother, Dallas Amick.
